Abstract

A Phenomenological Research to Determine Individuals' Perception of Distance (Work From Home) Model in Pandemic Period; Public University Example

In this study, it is aimed to determine the perceptions of employees regarding the distance (work from home) working model that enterprises prefer to provide social isolation during the pandemic period. In order to achieve this goal, one of the qualitative research methods, interpretive phenomenology (phenomenology) research design was used. Compared to working from home (work from home), work from the workplace differs in terms of technical infrastructure (hardware and knowledge), time management, space, interaction with non-business roles. The research was carried out with the participation of academicians working from home with distance ( work from home) working model between March and April 2020. 20 academics participated in the research. n the study, it was stated that the perception of the participants regarding the technical infrastructure problem in the home working model was negative, that they did not have the necessary equipment for working from home and there was no instrumental support from the university. The rate of those who think they should have the necessary technical features to work from home is designed as 30%. This is because the perception of the participants for time management is positive in the home study model during the research phase and that the time management is more effective during the home study period. Comparison with the workplace in the workplace is chosen as 70% of those who find the work area in the home (for light, sound insulation, ventilation system etc. criteria) more efficient. 60% is to research the family roles of working from home. It was perceived positively by academics in general. It can be said that the fact that independent work is inherent in academia is effective in this result. It is for a framework for studies that want to measure perception of the phenomenon of working from home. At the same time, this study is expected to provide a unique feature to the field as the method to be used in social computing includes the phenomenological research pattern.
